Lil Oscar Cantu Retires

284BCB18 FF80 467F BC7D 86CBCEFF0A7AFormer NABF Super Flyweight champion Lil Oscar Cantu held a press conference August 10 in his hometown, Kingsville Texas, to announce his retirement from the ring. 

The 29 year old told his story live on social media with only  a few family members and friends in attendance that the difficult decision was made after a diagnosis of a brain aneurysm. He is being carefully monitored by specialists and is doing fine,  but the doctor’s recommendation is that he not continue his career.

 Cantu has also been a frequent helper with the WBC Cares program with his open heart, winning smile and special love for children. He can frequently be found in his dad’s gym in Kingsville working out with kids, handing out free summer lunches and holding weekly Bible studies. He is the recent recipient of the WBC Heroes of Humanity award and a championship belt from the WBC. 

 Oscar, we will miss you in the ring, but as family, we still expect you to hang out with us and keep up all the good work!  Thanks for the memories!
